Amends Minnesota Statutes section 626.556 to modify parent notification requirements for child maltreatment reports in school facilities.

Requires the Commissioner of Education to inform parents, guardians, or legal custodians within ten days of receiving a report of alleged maltreatment in a school facility, either orally or in writing, whether the commissioner is assessing or investigating the report.

Modifies subdivision 10d to change school facility notification from discretionary ("need not") to mandatory ("shall") for notifying parents of students alleged to have been maltreated within ten days after investigation completion.

Allows the Commissioner of Education to optionally notify parents of students involved as witnesses to alleged maltreatment in school facilities.

Both amendments become effective August 1, 2010.
