Instruction permit holders under age 18 must display a "student driver" sticker or magnet to the rear of the vehicle while operating a motor vehicle, effective July 1, 2010

Violation of the sticker/magnet display requirement is a petty misdemeanor, but peace officers may only issue citations if they lawfully stopped the driver for a moving violation other than equipment violations

Department of Public Safety shall not record sticker/magnet display violations on a person's driving record

Instruction permit applicants under age 18 may purchase a "student driver" sticker for $5 or magnet for $10 at their option, with proceeds deposited in the driver services operating account

Existing instruction permit restrictions maintained, including prohibition on cellular phone use while driving, requirement for adult supervision age 21 or older, and requirement to maintain a clean driving record free of moving violations and alcohol-related offenses
