• State-developed high school tests in subjects other than writing must include both multiple choice questions and open-ended items, aligned with state academic standards.

• Assessment system alignment timeline: mathematics grades 3-8 beginning 2010-2011 school year and high school beginning 2013-2014; science grades 5, 8, and high school beginning 2011-2012; language arts and reading grades 3-8 and high school beginning 2012-2013.

• Students enrolled in grade 8 from 2005-2006 through 2009-2010 who fail the mathematics graduation-required assessment may still receive a diploma with passing state notation by completing coursework, participating in academic remediation, and taking at least two retests.

• Grade 3-8 and high school test results must be available to districts for diagnostic and accountability purposes, with high school results disseminated publicly.

• Statewide public reporting system must include uniform testing with accommodations, educational indicators (attendance, graduation and dropout rates), American College Test results, and National Assessment of Educational Progress results.

• Effective date: 2010-2011 school year and later.
