S.F. 3338 Summary

• Authorizes the city of Biwabik to impose up to four local taxes within the Giants Ridge Recreation Area with approval from both the city governing body and at least seven members of the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board.

• Permits a sales tax of up to 1 percent on taxable goods and a food and beverage tax of up to 1 percent on restaurant sales within the recreation area.

• Allows a lodging tax of up to 5 percent on gross receipts from lodging facilities and an admissions and recreation tax of up to 5 percent on entertainment, recreational facilities, and recreation equipment rentals.

• Requires all tax proceeds to be deposited into the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board account enterprise fund and dedicated exclusively to construction, renovation, improvement, expansion, and maintenance of public recreational facilities in the Giants Ridge Recreation Area, or to pay bonds financing such facilities.

• Takes effect the day after Biwabik complies with Minnesota Statutes section 645.021, with compliance required by January 1, 2012.
