Cities electing council members by wards must reestablish ward boundaries no later than 14 days before the first day to file affidavits of candidacy in years ending in one, with modifications limited to a five percent population change plus or minus.

Ward boundary modifications may be made after legislative redistricting for establishing precinct boundaries, but precinct boundary changes in cities with wards must occur within four weeks of ward adoption in years ending in one.

Eligible voters may apply to district court for writs of mandamus or plan revisions, with application deadlines ranging from one to three weeks depending on when redistricting plans are adopted relative to primary elections.

Precinct boundary changes must be adopted at least ten weeks before the next election and no later than May 1 in state general election years, with notice posted for at least 56 days.

In first-class cities with non-staggered four-year ward terms, a five percent or greater ward population change triggers new elections for all council members at the first municipal general election after boundary redefinition.
