Adds prosecuting attorneys to Minnesota's first-degree murder statute, making it a capital offense to cause the death of a prosecuting attorney engaged in official duties with intent to effect that death.

Expands the assault statute to include prosecuting attorneys alongside peace officers and correctional employees, establishing a 10-to-20-year mandatory minimum sentence for assaulting a prosecuting attorney with deadly force without eligibility for probation or parole until the full term is served.

Defines "prosecuting attorney" as any attorney with criminal or civil responsibilities who is a United States Attorney, state attorney general, county/city attorney, or their deputies or assistants.

Creates a felony offense for assaulting a prosecuting attorney and inflicting bodily harm or transferring bodily fluids or feces, punishable by up to 2 years imprisonment or $4,000 fine.

All provisions are effective August 1, 2012, and apply only to crimes committed on or after that date.
