Minnesota Legislature expresses solidarity with Somali-American residents in supporting family members in the Horn of Africa through money remittances.

Banks discontinued money-wiring services to Somali firms in January, cutting off a vital lifeline for millions of Somalis who depend on diaspora remittances for food, housing, and health support.

Somali-American money transfer businesses operate legally, are not accused of violating any laws, and create jobs in both Minnesota and the Horn of Africa.

Legislature urges all parties to find solutions that restore normal remittance flows while maintaining United States safety and security.

Secretary of State is directed to send copies of this resolution to Minnesota's banking community, the President, Congress leadership, relevant banking and financial services committees, and Minnesota's congressional delegation.
