Authorizes the White Bear Lake Volunteer Fire Department Relief Association to pay a $2,000 lump sum death benefit from its special fund to the estates of deceased retired members.

Eligible recipients must have rendered at least 20 years of firefighting service and relief association membership, retired before January 1, 2009, and received a monthly benefit service pension in the month this section became effective.

Death benefit payment is only available if the relief association's bylaws are amended to provide for such payments and the deceased member died after the bylaw amendment becomes effective.

Provision overrides existing restrictions in Minnesota Statutes section 424A.05, subdivision 3, clause (4).

Effective date is the day after the White Bear Lake city governing body and chief clerical officer complete compliance with Minnesota Statutes section 645.021, subdivisions 2 and 3.
