Commissioner of education must revise Minnesota's academic math standards during the 2011-2012 school year to align with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics developed by the Council of Chief State School Officers and the National Governors Association for Best Practices.

Revised math standards must take effect beginning in the 2014-2015 school year, requiring students to complete algebra I by the end of eighth grade and algebra II or equivalent by graduation.

Statewide mathematics assessments for grades 3-8 and 11 must be aligned with the revised state academic standards in mathematics consistent with existing law.

Commissioner must begin a review of mathematics academic standards and benchmarks in the 2020-2021 school year.

School districts and charter schools must revise local academic standards in health, world languages, and career and technical education with periodic review cycles at timelines determined by each district or school.
