Commissioner of Veterans Affairs must maintain an inventory containing at least one sample set of each type of Minnesota veterans license plate for display and educational purposes.

Commissioner of Public Safety must provide sample sets of all veterans license plates to the Commissioner of Veterans Affairs by June 30, 2012, and annually thereafter for any newly issued plates.

When a veterans license plate is discontinued, remaining plates must be distributed in priority order: sample sets to Veterans Affairs and Minnesota Historical Society, one sample set to each public museum, then remaining plates sold to the public at full market value.

Proceeds from the sale of discontinued veterans license plates are deposited into the historical veterans license plate account, with 50 percent annually appropriated to the "Support Our Troops" account and 50 percent to the Department of Public Safety for motor vehicle licensing staff training.

Public officials are prohibited from destroying any veterans license plates that are discontinued.
