Amends Minnesota Statutes section 141.35 to exempt schools using "academy" or "institute" in their names from private career school licensing requirements if the school used those terms prior to August 1, 2008.

Applies the exemption retroactively to August 1, 2008, allowing schools that previously used these names to operate without the licensing requirement.

Maintains existing exemptions for public institutions, registered postsecondary schools, nursing schools, apprenticeship programs, and other educational entities listed in current statute.

Clarifies that schools engaged exclusively in avocational, recreational, or remedial subjects are exempt unless they use restricted terminology in their names, with the exception for pre-August 2008 users of "academy" or "institute."
