School boards must record majority roll call votes to offer teachers five-year continuing contracts, discharge them, or retain them without continuing contracts at the end of probationary periods.

Continuing contract decisions must be based on teacher job performance and peer reviews at minimum.

School boards must renew, terminate, or retain teachers without continuing contracts every five years by majority roll call vote, with notice required before July 1.

Teachers retained without continuing contracts become at-will employees until the board votes to offer a continuing contract or terminates employment.

Teachers recommended for termination have the right to request a hearing, and the contract terms apply to both standard and extended school calendars.
