Allows parents of eligible children (deaf, hard of hearing, blind, visually impaired, or multiply disabled) to apply for trial placements at Minnesota State Academies without requiring prior individual education planning team decisions.

Trial placements last between 60 and 90 calendar days, during which the Minnesota State Academies becomes the responsible serving school district with all due process obligations.

The child's resident school district remains responsible for providing transportation during the trial placement period.

Before the trial placement ends, academy staff must convene an individualized education program team meeting to determine whether to continue the placement or select another placement.

If the individualized education program team and parent cannot agree on continuing the placement, the child reverts to their previous placement; if they agree to continue, the same transportation and due process responsibilities apply as during the trial period.
