Minnesota Department of Education may award up to three grants of up to $100,000 each to groups of school districts collaborating with private business or industry to plan and implement sharing opportunities.

Grant purposes include improving career and college readiness, expanding programs and services, enhancing student learning opportunities, increasing efficiency of services, and maintaining school district independence.

Consortiums of at least three rural school districts or other governmental agencies must develop plans to share administrative functions and instructional services, with collaboration from higher education institutions or educational service providers.

Grant recipients must submit reports to the Minnesota Department of Education documenting results in the designated categories, with the goal of replicating successful collaborative models.

Appropriates unspecified amounts from the general fund to the Department of Education for planning grants in fiscal year 2012 and implementation grants in fiscal year 2013.
