School districts must adopt and implement policies to prevent and address child sexual abuse, effective for the 2013-2014 school year and later.

District policies may include age-appropriate curriculum for prekindergarten through grade 5, staff training, parent information on warning signs, counseling services, and methods to increase awareness of child sexual abuse.

An advisory task force on preventing child sexual abuse is established with representatives from the legislature, state commissioners (education, human services, health, public safety), and organizations including Education Minnesota, school principals associations, school boards association, and Prevent Child Abuse America.

The task force must recommend to the education commissioner and legislature how schools and other circumstances can reduce child sexual abuse, including statutory changes and increased cooperation between schools and state/local agencies.

The task force must submit its written recommendations by February 15, 2014, and expires on February 16, 2014.
