Commissioner of Transportation authorized to declare salvaged structural steel and materials from the I-35W bridge collapse as surplus property after completion of special claims process and all related litigation.

Remnant steel pieces distributed free of charge in priority order to: Minnesota Historical Society, survivors, federal/state transportation safety agencies, higher education engineering institutions, and other directly impacted persons or institutions at commissioner's discretion.

Commissioner must complete steel distribution within six months of the effective date; remaining undistributed steel shall be melted down and recycled as surplus property.

First $22,000 in proceeds from recycled steel disposal deposited to trunk highway fund, with any additional proceeds going to the general fund.

State assumes no liability for the condition of distributed remnant steel pieces, including lead-based paint or other hazards.
