Forensic laboratories operating on or after January 1, 2014 must be accredited by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB) or other accrediting body that meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO/IEC 17025) standards.

"Forensic analysis" is defined as the application of scientific knowledge and methodology by an individual with specialized training who uses standardized procedures to examine evidence and may provide expert testimony.

"Forensic laboratory" is defined as a publicly financed state laboratory that conducts forensic analysis on evidence for criminal investigations.

Forensic laboratories must submit copies of their accreditation certificate and scope of accreditation to the Commissioner of Public Safety, who shall post these documents on the department's website.
