HF1836 Summary

• Establishes licensing requirements for orthotists, prosthetists, pedorthists, assistants, fitters, and technicians under Minnesota Statutes chapter 153B, effective January 1, 2015.

• Requires orthotists and prosthetists to hold a baccalaureate degree, complete CAAHEP-accredited education, finish residency requirements, and pass board examinations.

• Requires pedorthists to have a high school diploma, complete NCOPE-approved education, obtain 1,000 hours of patient care experience, and pass examinations.

• Creates an Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics Advisory Council with seven members to advise the Board of Podiatric Medicine on licensure, enforcement, and disciplinary matters.

• Establishes grounds for disciplinary action including misstatements, criminal convictions, incompetence, unethical conduct, and failure to report child maltreatment; prohibits unlicensed practice as a misdemeanor.
