Becker County Board of Commissioners may adopt a resolution to combine the offices of county auditor-treasurer and recorder and make them appointive rather than elective, overriding Minnesota Statutes section 382.01.

County board must publish the proposed resolution twice weekly for two consecutive weeks and hold a public comment hearing before adoption, with resolution requiring approval from at least 80 percent of board members.

Current office holders elected at the last general election must complete their full terms or until a vacancy occurs, whichever is earlier.

Voters may petition for a referendum within 60 days of resolution adoption if signed by at least 10 percent of registered county voters; combined offices take effect only if approved by referendum voters or if the 60-day petition period expires without sufficient signatures.

County board may revert the offices back to elected positions after at least three years as appointed positions, requiring 60 percent board approval and following the same publication and public comment procedures.
