Commissioner of Labor and Industry shall establish pilot programs to develop competency standards for apprenticeships in precision manufacturing and health care services, administered by the registered apprenticeship program within the Department of Labor and Industry.

Commissioner of Employment and Economic Development shall establish a pilot program to develop competency standards for an information technology apprenticeship program.

Both commissioners may convene industry experts and representative employers to define credible competency standards acceptable to their respective industries.

Pilot program outcomes must include competency standards for entry level and at least two higher skill levels, verification of transferability by industry representatives, clarification of educational institution engagement, and participation from identified industry sectors.

$200,000 appropriated from workforce development fund to Department of Labor and Industry for precision manufacturing and health care pilot programs, and $100,000 to Department of Employment and Economic Development for information technology pilot program, both available through June 30, 2017.
