Saint Louis County Board may designate that the District 7 commissioner elected in 2014 shall serve a two-year term instead of the standard term length.

Following the 2014 election, the District 7 commissioner shall be elected for four-year terms in subsequent elections.

The legislature finds these staggered terms comply with Minnesota Statutes section 375.025, subdivision 4 requirements for staggered county board terms.

The section becomes effective upon the Saint Louis County Board and its chief clerical officer complying with Minnesota Statutes section 645.021, subdivisions 2 and 3.

The authorization applies until a new redistricting plan is filed with the Saint Louis County auditor under Minnesota Statutes section 375.025, subdivision 4.
