Motorcycle owners in Minnesota must obtain and maintain medical payments insurance coverage for themselves and permitted riders of their licensed motorcycles.

Medical payments coverage must include $25,000 per accident in benefits for reasonable and necessary medical, chiropractic, funeral, and burial services resulting from bodily injury or death.

Coverage includes up to $5,000 death benefit for insured family members, with total claims limited to $25,000 per policy period regardless of number of injured parties.

Coverage excludes deaths from suicide, intentional harm by family members, injuries sustained while committing a felony, or injuries sustained while evading law enforcement.

Medical payments coverage is separate from and in addition to liability insurance already required for motorcycle owners; owners unable to obtain coverage through ordinary methods may apply through the Minnesota Automobile Insurance Plan.
