Establishes gross misdemeanor criminal penalties for assaulting a transit operator or intentionally transferring bodily fluids onto a transit operator while they are performing their duties.

Punishment includes imprisonment for not more than one year or a fine of not more than $3,000, or both.

Defines "transit operator" as a driver or operator of vehicles providing public transit, light rail transit, special transportation services, or commuter rail services.

Applies to assaults occurring when the transit operator is operating, aboard, or otherwise responsible for a transit vehicle in the course of their duties.

Effective date is August 1, 2013, and applies to crimes committed on or after that date.
