Commissioner of Transportation authorized to declare structural steel and materials salvaged from the I-35W bridge collapse as surplus property after completion of special claims process and all litigation.

Commissioner shall distribute pieces of remnant steel free of charge to: Minnesota Historical Society, survivors, federal and state transportation safety agencies, engineering institutions, and other persons or institutions directly impacted by the collapse, in that order of priority.

Commissioner must determine the size of steel pieces and complete distribution within six months of the effective date.

Remaining undistributed steel shall be melted down and recycled as surplus property, with proceeds deposited in the general fund.

State has no liability for the condition of distributed steel pieces, including presence of lead-based paint.
