Applies to former Department of Corrections employees who were assaulted by inmates at state institutions and determined to be totally and permanently disabled under the Minnesota State Retirement System.

Requires the Department of Corrections to continue paying employer contributions for hospital, medical, and dental insurance benefits under the State Employee Group Insurance Program after the employee terminates state service.

Employer contributions must equal the amount paid for active state employees at the time each payment is made and must continue until the person reaches age 65.

Employee must make required employee contributions in the same amount as active state employees to maintain coverage.

Applies retroactively to assaults occurring on or after October 1, 2010, with employer contributions required retroactive to July 1, 2013.
