Saint Louis County Board may designate the District 7 commissioner to serve a two-year term in the 2014 election instead of the standard four-year term.

Following the 2014 election, the District 7 commissioner shall be elected for four-year terms in subsequent elections.

The legislature finds that the staggered terms authorized comply with Minnesota Statutes section 375.025, subdivision 4.

The bill becomes effective upon Saint Louis County Board and its chief clerical officer complying with Minnesota Statutes section 645.021, subdivisions 2 and 3.

The authorization applies until a new redistricting plan is filed with the Saint Louis County auditor under Minnesota Statutes section 375.025, subdivision 4.
