School districts and charter schools must provide mental health instruction to students in grades 6 through 12, aligned with local health and physical education standards and integrated into existing programs and curriculum.

The education commissioner, in consultation with the human services commissioner and mental health organizations, must develop and provide age-appropriate model learning activities for grades 6 through 12 based on National Health Education Standards and best practices in mental health education.

The commissioner must provide districts and charter schools with a directory of resources for planning and implementing age-appropriate mental health curriculum and instruction in grades 6 through 12.

The bill becomes effective the day following final enactment.
