Prohibits the State Building Code, State Fire Code, and political subdivisions from requiring fire sprinklers or mechanical fire suppression systems in new or existing single-family detached dwelling units that are less than 7,000 square feet or located outside the seven-county metropolitan area.

Does not apply sprinkler requirements to single-family homes that receive public funding as a condition of that funding in the specified categories.

Preserves all existing requirements for smoke detectors, fire detectors, alarms, and their components in single-family dwellings.

Amends Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 299F.011 by adding subdivision 4d.

Takes effect the day following final enactment.
