School districts must annually provide parent and caregiver educational information regarding eating disorders for students in grades 5 through 12, consistent with guidelines from the Department of Education.

The commissioners of education and health shall jointly develop and implement policies for providing eating disorder information to parents and caregivers, with input from school boards, superintendents, the Emily Program Foundation, Minnesota Association of School Nurses, American Academy of Pediatrics, and Academy of Family Physicians.

Commissioners must develop guidelines for local school boards on optional eating disorder screening programs, training requirements for personnel and volunteers, opt-out and exemption procedures, and parental notification procedures for positive eating disorder indications.

Commissioners shall identify additions or revisions to existing policies with clear delineation between health information and administrative documents.

Guidelines must address any issues requiring statutory or regulatory amendment.
