Adjutant general administers a reimbursement grant program to pay grants to local units of government for salary and benefits of public safety employees on authorized leave.

Eligible public safety employees include peace officers, firefighters, and ambulance service personnel who are full-time employees of counties or home rule charter or statutory cities.

Local units of government must apply to the adjutant general by March 15 for reimbursement of costs from the preceding calendar year, with grants paid by July 15.

General fund appropriations are used to pay grants; if insufficient funds exist, the adjutant general reduces each grant proportionally to match available appropriation.

Program becomes effective for replacement costs incurred in calendar year 2016 and thereafter.
