Appropriates $550,000 in fiscal year 2016 and $550,000 in fiscal year 2017 from the general fund to the commissioner of employment and economic development for a grant to Ka Joog for a job skills and workforce development pilot program.

Ka Joog pilot program shall train Somali youth and young adults in job skills, offer internships with local units of government, and provide workplace cultural awareness programs for government and private sector employers.

Ka Joog shall partner with local units of government to create internships and mentorships to build job skills and create pathways to private and public sector employment.

Appropriates $950,000 in fiscal year 2016 and $950,000 in fiscal year 2017 from the general fund to the commissioner of agriculture for a grant to expand the Takeoff 4-H Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) Club for Somali youth throughout Minnesota.

University of Minnesota Extension may use a portion of grant funds for grant administration and direct costs related to the Takeoff 4-H STEAM partnership with Ka Joog.
