Schools may make athletic team participation dependent on demonstrated level of skill and ability.

Male students are prohibited from trying out for or participating on teams designated for female students; "sex" is defined as the physical condition of being male or female, determined by chromosomes and identified at birth by anatomy.

Minnesota State High School League must review and conform its rules, guidelines, procedures, and eligibility bylaws to be consistent with the athletic participation requirements.

Public school restrooms, locker rooms, changing rooms, and shower rooms accessible by multiple students must be designated for exclusive use by either male or female students only.

Schools must provide separate, private, and safe areas designated by sex in any other facility where students may be in a state of undress, though single-occupancy or faculty facilities may be provided for special circumstances without allowing students to use facilities designated for the opposite sex.
