School districts must provide one-time cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automatic external defibrillator instruction to all students in grades 7-12 beginning in the 2014-2015 school year.

Training must include hands-on psychomotor skills practice and be developed by the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or use nationally recognized, evidence-based guidelines.

School districts may use community members such as emergency medical technicians, paramedics, police officers, and firefighters to provide instruction, with encouraged donations of training materials and equipment.

School administrators may waive the curriculum requirement for high school transfer students, absent students, or students with disabilities.

At public events held at school facilities or on school grounds, the person in charge must announce the location of nearby automatic external defibrillators via public announcement system before the event begins when practicable; this applies to school-sponsored events at rented private or public facilities as well.
