Districts must notify students and parents/guardians if counseling services are provided by school personnel who are not licensed school counselors under Minnesota Rules, part 8710.6400.

Candidates for school counseling licensure may continue to provide counseling to students as part of approved preparation programs when supervised by licensed school counselors.

Licensed school counselors cannot be placed in positions that impair their ability to perform duties within their scope of practice.

School personnel assigned disciplinary, administrative, or other functions equivalent to a licensed principal or school administrator must be identified in staffing reports as an administrative position, regardless of their own licensure.
