Children under age seven who voluntarily enroll in kindergarten or a higher grade in public school become subject to compulsory attendance laws unless the school district has an exemption policy.

Parents or guardians may withdraw children under seven from school enrollment for good cause, including enrollment in another school or the child's immaturity.

School districts must provide written explanation of these provisions to parents or guardians at the time of enrollment.

Children under seven who are withdrawn from school are no longer subject to compulsory attendance laws and truancy enforcement.

Districts that have adopted exemption policies for children under seven must keep truancy enforcement authorities supplied with a certified copy of the board's current policy.

Effective for the 2015-2016 school year and later.
