Requires all licensed teachers renewing their continuing license to complete at least one hour of suicide prevention training based on nationally recognized evidence-based programs and practices in each licensure renewal period.

Initial training must focus on understanding key warning signs of early-onset mental illness in children and adolescents.

Subsequent renewal periods may include in-depth training on students' mental illness trauma, mental illness accommodations, parents' roles, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, autism, restrictive procedures, and de-escalation methods.

Effective the day following final enactment and applies to teachers renewing licenses beginning August 1, 2017.
