Amends Minnesota Statutes section 609.2231, subdivision 1, to clarify fourth degree assault offenses against peace officers.

Physical assault on a licensed peace officer during a lawful arrest or performance of official duties constitutes a gross misdemeanor punishable by up to one year imprisonment or a $3,000 fine, or both.

Physical assault causing demonstrable bodily harm or intentionally throwing or transferring bodily fluids or feces at a peace officer is a felony punishable by up to three years imprisonment or a $6,000 fine, or both.

Effective August 1, 2016, and applies to crimes committed on or after that date.
