• Increases Board of Barber Examiners from three to four barber members while maintaining one public member appointed by the governor.

• Eliminates the separate apprentice barber registration category, requiring apprentices to complete 1,500 hours of barber school and pass the registered barber examination to become registered barbers; all apprentice registrations discontinued December 31, 2017.

• Increases maximum daily hours of barber school instruction from eight to ten hours per working day.

• Increases instructor-to-student ratio from one instructor per 17 students to one per 20 students.

• Changes barber school course requirement from a minimum of 1,500 hours to a full 1,500-hour curriculum and requires applicants whose barber school graduation exceeded four years prior to complete an additional 500 hours before examination.
