Municipalities operating fire departments must provide health insurance coverage through municipal group health plans to dependents of volunteer firefighters killed in the line of duty, including spouses.

Municipalities must pay the same level of contribution for dependent coverage as required for career firefighters under existing law.

Health insurance coverage continues for dependents until they reach age 65 or no longer qualify as dependents.

Adds definitions to statute clarifying that "volunteer firefighter" and "fire department" have meanings from sections 299N.03, and that "firefighter" excludes volunteer firefighters.

A person is not considered a dependent for purposes of this section if covered under another group health plan.
