SF1368 Summary: Minnesota Orthotist, Prosthetist, and Pedorthist Practice Act

• Establishes licensure requirements for orthotists, prosthetists, pedorthists, orthotic-prosthetic assistants, and orthotic fitters under the Board of Podiatric Medicine, effective January 1, 2018.

• Requires applicants to meet certification standards from the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics or Board of Certification/Accreditation and maintain good standing with certifying boards.

• Creates a 7-member Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics Advisory Council to advise the board on enforcement, investigate complaints, and establish licensure standards.

• Sets licensing fees up to $600 for initial licensure and biennial renewal for orthotists, prosthetists, and pedorthists; up to $300 for assistants and fitters; includes $100 late renewal fee surcharge.

• Establishes grounds for disciplinary action including material misstatements, conviction of crimes, unethical conduct, inability to practice due to intoxication or addiction, and violations of continuing education requirements; unlicensed practice constitutes a misdemeanor.
