School districts and charter schools with students in foreign exchange or study abroad programs must report annually by November 1 to the Department of Education the number of student deaths, accidents, and illnesses resulting from participation in these programs.

Districts and charter schools must report the name and type of each program and the city or region where any reported death, accident, or illness occurred.

The Department of Education must aggregate reported data and publish it on its website with links to the U.S. Department of State's Consular Information Program and publicly available reports on sexual assaults and criminal acts affecting study abroad students.

School districts and charter schools are encouraged to adopt policies supporting foreign exchange and study abroad programs with standards to ensure student health and safety.

Program providers must register with the secretary of state and annually by August 1 provide required safety data to districts and charter schools with participating students; registration does not constitute endorsement by the secretary of state.
