School districts must provide one-time cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automatic external defibrillator instruction to all students in grades 7-12 beginning in the 2014-2015 school year.

Training must use curricula developed by the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or nationally recognized evidence-based guidelines and must include hands-on psychomotor skills practice, not cognitive-only instruction.

School districts may use community members such as emergency medical technicians, paramedics, police officers, and firefighters to provide instruction, and community members are encouraged to donate training resources and materials at no cost.

School administrators may waive the curriculum requirement for high school transfer students, students absent during instruction, or students with eligible disabilities.

At public events held at school facilities or on school grounds, the person in charge must announce the location of nearby automatic external defibrillators via public announcement system before the event begins when practicable; this requirement also applies to school-sponsored events at rented private or public facilities.
