Allows parents or guardians to request written excused absences for students participating in entertainment or related industry activities for up to five consecutive school days, up to five times per school year.

Requires an agreed-upon plan ensuring the student receives instruction and completes and receives credit for all coursework and tests missed during absences.

Adds performing arts participation as a legitimate exemption to Minnesota's student attendance requirements under Minnesota Statutes 2014, section 120A.22, subdivision 12.

Effective for the 2016-2017 school year and later.
