Amends Minnesota Statutes 2014, section 518B.01, subdivision 3a to eliminate filing fees for both petitioners and respondents in orders for protection cases.

Requires court administrators, sheriffs, and law enforcement/corrections officers to perform service of process duties without charge to the petitioner.

Directs courts to pay reasonable costs of private process server when sheriffs or law enforcement are unavailable, or when service is made by publication.

Removes the court's authority to direct respondents to pay the petitioner's filing fees and reasonable costs of service of process.

Introduced March 10, 2016 and referred to the Judiciary Committee.
