Amends Minnesota Statutes section 299A.41, subdivision 4, to expand the definition of "public safety officer" to include Capitol security officers employed by the commissioner of public safety and assigned to the State Patrol.

Makes Capitol security officers eligible for public safety officer benefits and survivor benefits previously available only to peace officers, correction officers, firefighters, and other specified emergency personnel.

Applies the expanded definition to persons other than state troopers whose primary employment duty is either Capitol security or enforcement of commercial motor vehicle laws and regulations.

Takes effect July 1, 2016.
