Modifies exceptions for transporting unloaded firearms in motor vehicles to include shooting ranges, private and public hunting land, and travel to or from hunting sites, except in Anoka, Hennepin, or Ramsey County, cities with populations of 2,500 or more, school grounds, and areas restricted under sections 97A.091, 97B.081, or 97B.086.

Defines "pistol" to include weapons designed to be fired with one hand and less than 26 inches in overall length, or with barrel lengths less than 18 inches for shotguns or less than 16 inches for rifles, but excludes BB guns, scuba guns, stud guns, nail guns, and children's toys.

Simplifies night vision and thermal imaging equipment prohibitions by removing exceptions for enclosed firearms and bows in motor vehicles, retaining only the exemption for peace officers and military personnel exercising their duties.

Restructures section 97B.086 to clarify that the general prohibition on possessing night vision or thermal imaging equipment while taking protected wild animals or possessing hunting implements remains in effect without the previous vehicle storage exceptions.
