Appropriates $1,625,000 from the general fund to the commissioner of education in fiscal year 2017 for a grant to the Girls in Action program.

Funds enable Girls in Action to continue and expand Twin Cities metropolitan area school and community-based programs supporting low-income girls, including girls of color.

Program goals include helping participants graduate high school on time, complete postsecondary preparation, become community leaders, and engage in service learning opportunities.

Requires $500,000 of the appropriation be spent on community-based programs located in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

Appropriation remains available until expended and is effective for fiscal year 2017.
