Resident student veterans with a 100 percent service-connected permanent and total disability rating from the U.S. Veterans Administration or armed forces retirement board are exempt from paying tuition and mandatory fees at state colleges or universities that exceed their federal Pell grant and state grant awards.

Students must apply for both a federal Pell grant and a state grant to qualify for the tuition relief.

Tuition relief applies only while students maintain satisfactory academic progress as determined by their college or university.

An unspecified amount is appropriated from the general fund in fiscal year 2017 to the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees to fund the tuition relief program.
