Representatives seeking to place or remove freezes for protected persons must provide sufficient proof of identification and authority, which includes court orders, powers of attorney, or notarized statements.

Consumer reporting agencies must place security freezes within 3 business days if they have an existing file, or within 30 days if no file exists; must remove freezes within 30 days of proper request.

No fees may be charged for placing or removing security freezes for protected persons; exceptions apply to certain entities maintaining databases for criminal records, fraud prevention, employment screening, and tenant screening.
