Amends Minnesota Statutes to establish data privacy rules governing mental health screening information collected by sheriffs and local corrections agencies for individuals in custody.

Requires sheriffs and local corrections agencies to use a mental health screening tool approved by the commissioner of corrections in consultation with the commissioner of human services to identify inmates with potential mental illness during intake procedures.

Allows jails to share names of persons who screened positive for mental illness with local county social services agencies to arrange discharge services.

Permits jails to share private data with county welfare personnel to provide assistance with medical assistance applications, case management referrals, state photo identification, psychiatric appointments, 30-day medication supplies, or behavioral health service coordination.
